Choose the size by dry-fitting the actual pad. Check whether the inner, centre and outer lashes reach its intended working area, whether both corners remain stable, and whether the proposed direction leaves suitable eyelid clearance. S, M and L labels are not interchangeable between product ranges.
This guide focuses on choosing between sizes. For the wider assessment of lash direction, eye shape and styling goals, start with the lash lift pad selection guide.
Watch the Existing Pad Demonstration
Use the demonstration to observe placement. Confirm the size against the current client and the instructions for your pad range.
What a Size Label Can and Cannot Tell You
Within one design, a larger size may offer more working space and a different curve. Across different designs, the same letter can describe different widths, base heights and shaping surfaces. A letter alone cannot tell you which size fits a measured lash length.
Start with the manufacturer’s chart for your exact range if one is provided. Then compare the actual fit rather than treating a generic short/medium/long table as a guaranteed match.
Compare Neighbouring Sizes Before Processing
| Check | What to observe | What to compare next |
|---|---|---|
| Lash reach | Can the inner, centre and outer lashes reach the intended shaping area without excessive pull? | A neighbouring size or a different working-surface shape if reach is inadequate. |
| Tip position | Do the tips remain within the usable surface described by the pad instructions? | More working space if the tips extend beyond that area. |
| Corner stability | Does the pad follow the eyelid at the centre and both corners? | Width and base curvature, not only the next size. |
| Root direction | Can the lashes travel smoothly from the roots onto the pad? | Pad position and profile as well as size. |
| Clearance | Does the intended direction allow room above the lashes? | The curve and base height together with lash length. |
A Practical Dry-Fit Sequence
- Identify the product range and its fitting directions.
- Assess both eyes and all three sections of each lash line.
- Prepare the clean pad and eye area as directed, then position the pad without treatment lotions.
- Check the centre and corners before testing a small section of lash reach with an appropriate placement tool.
- Compare the neighbouring size using the same observations.
- If neither size fits, compare another shape rather than forcing one into place.
- Record the chosen design, size and fitting observations before proceeding with the system instructions.
When Changing Size Is Not Enough
A pad can provide enough space for long lashes while being too wide or poorly curved for the eyelid. Conversely, a stable pad may have the wrong shaping surface for the intended result. Fit and styling direction both need to work.
If the corners continue to lift, use the pad stability guide. For differences between rounded rods, upright shields and stage-specific pads, read the shape comparison.
Practice Examples
These examples illustrate a selection process; they are not measured client results.
- Long centre lashes with shorter corners: inspect all sections before deciding that the size fitting the centre is suitable for the whole lash line.
- Two sizes have similar reach: compare the curve, corner stability and intended direction rather than automatically choosing the smaller size.
- The next size still lifts at the corners: review width, curvature and alignment before adding fixation product.
What to Record for the Next Appointment
Record the brand and design, size label, side used, natural direction, corner fit, lash reach and immediate result. Reassess at each appointment; an old size record is a reference rather than a permanent prescription.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the smallest pad best for short lashes?
Not automatically. The lashes must reach the correct area, and the resulting curve and eyelid fit must also be suitable.
Can I use the same size on both eyes?
Assess both eyes independently. Matching sizes can work, but differences in lash length, direction or eyelid fit may change the choice.
Should a new pad size change the lotion time?
Follow the timing assessment for the exact treatment system. A size change alone does not establish a new processing time.
Choose the Missing Size or Shape
Before buying another full set, identify whether the gap in your current range is working space, width or profile. Review the full selection process and compare the current YSEN’S lash lift pads.
